(idm) DJ Shadow,Cut Chemist,Breakbeat Era, Roni Size, DJ Die & Dynamite MC

alright folks, here's my review of the show at Crystalballroom, Portland, Or. 
10-14-99.
  The day just felt right for me to try to scam my way into a concert. After 
talking to the bouncer, three guys, alot of he said, she said, "I was suppose 
to be on the list", and one tour manager I got in for free. "woo hoo" so onto 
the show.
Starting it off was DJ Die with a set of dnb,jungle with dynamite mc doing 
his thing. For some reason dj die's set consisted of faint sounds of no 
u-turn style dnb with an added distortion. It was nice to see the dj that 
I've heard from the old universe tapes. "I feel like hiding, I don't know 
why, must be the sounds of dj die."
  Then with a quick transition on came Breakbeat Era (EEEra, for those uk 
folks). Not hearing of this band prior I came in with some mix'd idea of what 
they sounded like. So on with it already, not bad stuff, but then again 
nothing that really caught me as being good. I do have to stress though the 
drummer was excellent, I've never seen a drummer nearly as good.
  Roni Size, his set was diffen. fun for those dnb people. I just don't see 
where dnb is going at the moment with the constant use of the same breaks. 
Anyway, he was fun to listen while I sip'd on a cold one.
  DJ Shadow, ( I have to say I saw Shadow on tour about a year ago and it was 
the worst show I've seen) Shadow comes out and he just started mix'n stuff up 
so great I was surprised this was the same guy. His set up had two 1200's and 
a vestex mix along with what looked like some cd mixer on the side. Let me 
just say if you have a chance to see  this show go for it, Shadow alone is 
worth it.  He did a live rendetion of something off Endtroducing(can't 
remember the name asides it's the one with the clock on the wall reads a 
quarter past midnight).
  To top it off Shadow and Cut Chemist come out and do a dual thing only 
using 7"'s.!!
I'm not going to go on, let me just say it was a fun experience seeing this 
show.
