Applause -> failure. The rationale: if anyone in the audience applauded, then the piece evidently wasn't challenging enough. A truly new work would unbalance the audience, making one unsure of one's own reaction and incapable of an immediate judgement. By the way, this thread title is very silly. Bucket all, then. 3
