blitter 7"
recketcetcetc

very nice two track 7". side one mix focuses on beats mostly,
goes through a number of style changes and is just really nice.
mix two on the flip is sounds much more like a grungy gescom
track. both sides have a locked groove, side two having one of the
best sounding ones in a while (course, still haven't given RRR500
a FULL listen) the most appealing thing about this is the tracks
have a nice almost live feel to them and the production is over the
top so they feel alive. heard enough overproduced material lately
that this difference was enough alone to make this a refreshing
change from the normal, typical mundane stuffs. buy buy buy
now if i only had that cdr of the reck's live mixes i'd be really happy :)

808 state/jega split 7"
sluts smalls

808 state's track is nice. never heard any previous material, but this
is sort a cross between a dnb track and a techno track. its odd, has
a sort of dark rhythm thru it, except for this sort of playful piano bit.
pretty nice. think i liked this better than the jega <????>
jega's track is much more in the vein of older stuff (skam) imo,
minus the crunchy. nice, but wasn't really that impressed. oh well,
not bad and really dig the 80-8 track...

various artists remixes
fatcat

pole remix sounds exactly like pole. really. reminds me of the live
show and cd1 one and thats ok with me :) worth picking up for that
alone imo! monolake remix is very basic channel, no surprise.
ae mix is a fast paced, distorted basic channel sounding track
which is nice and was fully appreciated after the ae skinny puppy
remix :) funkstorung remix comes off as a metallic Ae sounding
track, but to these ears actually gets a bit annoying, the repedative
nature just not working effectively with the sounds. oh well, pole track
worth the price of admission.

v/a noise kills punks dead
opulence

59 bands 67 tracks. it ain't idm, but it ain't anything else in
particular either ! about, oh, two years ago (?) brent c collected
$25 and tracks from all the included artists with the intention
of releasing a noise compilation along with Thorazine. shit happened,
time passed, and passed, and passed. Brent made diskono's
release schedule look on time (no disrespect intented!) Finially, after
coming to the conclusion that the comp was never going to happen and
that he'd release it as a cdr, opulence stepped in or something and
picked it up and BAM, here it is. each track is supposed to be less
than a minute, although i spied a few that happened over by an extra
minute, but who cares. there;s sound collages, field recordings, noise,
weird vinyl/cd manipulations, there's some punk, rock and metal (or
SKUM rather, as brent would prefer) there's even some idmish and
ambient moments. any track taken on its own might not hold up
to the sound of two slices of cheese waving in the wind, but as a
whole, this thing is really an incredible collage... you've
been warned (just program out track 45)
