I found a 2xCD compilation called "Kraftwork @nu skool Elektro" on Millenium, cat. nb. MILL-051 yesterday. It was released in Obtober 1997 (or a little after that time). I couldn't find any review of this one and since there's been some talk about I-F/electro/video game music these past days, here's a (incomplete) review -- please, if anybody else is willing to post a review, do it, I'm not too good at these things: DISC 1 1. Voigt Kampff - Asphalt 2. Freddie Fresh - Electroflair 3. Carbon Academy - Between the line (excl. track) 4. DJ Snug - The predator 5. Slick'n Flash - Electra 6. Space DJ's - Celestial funk 7. Intermolecular Forces - 3rd led 8. Terrace - Into deep space (Edge ov motion mix) 9. Urban Electro - Synaps QZ 401 10. Acid Jesus - Hibernation drive 11. Mike Dred & Peter Green - Nautilus 110 DISC 2 1. Mike Dred - Down on Marne avenue (excl. track) 2. Euphonic - R.H.Y.T.H.M. 3. Majic 12 - The revenge of the Magic 12 4. The Operator - The mind strike 5. Scarletron - Allegorical 6. Max Reich - Thigh toner 7. Interr-Ference vs. That Nigga - Supercharged 8. Electronome - Five-o-nine 9. I-F - I do because I couldn't care less 10. Inigo Kennedy - Shorty 11. Mike Dred & Peter Green - Phanx 4 Da Mammarys First, I must say they could have used a little more time to find a decent title, because this album is pretty impressing and I just think it's a crappy title. The album starts off with one of the best electro tracks I've heard ever. Asphalt, by Voigt Kampff is simply amazing. The very definition of electro. Freddie Fresh is as good as he always is, no need to say more. The Carbon Academy track is very laid back, with a nice atmosphere, a little like the tracks on Freezone comps. The DJ Snug track is an OKAY acid electro track, a little repetitive IMO. Still always nice electro sounds. The Slick'n Flash track is about the same, it's a nice track, no more no less. But it's worth the wait when the next track begins. Space DJ's "Celestial Funk" is better than any Jedi Knights track; a superb combination of funk and samples+synth sounds. One of the best on the album, for sure. Acid electro follows, a nice spacey track by I-F (I don't know if this one is one their new album (Fucking Consumer)). Terrace delivers another funky track, with a lot of synth sounds (sorry, a synth sound is a synth sound to me, since I don't know about synths). Urban Electro is next. A very weird/atmospheric/spacey track, weird sounds and bleeps all the way. Excellent stuff. The next one if by Acid Jesus. Good, OKAY track. A little to repetitive for me, the same bouncing acid sound over the whole track. You will know what I mean when you hear the track. Finally, disc one end with a core dump by M. Dred and P. Green (electro accoustic mixed with basic techno music -- as weird as it sounds). Disc two, I would say, is like the first disc, only more "charged", orverloaded. Nice melodic track from Mike Dred, another laid back electro track follows, with nice acid sounds, a 1980's feel (think 1980 Prince synth sounds), and computer (vocoder?) voices as a bonus. Majic 12 can best be described as the ultimate 2014 break dancing championship anthem. Excellent track for those who think that Man Parrish should have been elected president of the USA. The Operator gives an excellent performance with more bass than you asked for and an overall atmosphere that would make Panacea turn red. Allegorical by Scarletron follows and is simply marvelous in my opinion. If you like Neil Landstrumm, Christian Vogel, well this one is for you. A superb track. Next track is almost as good. Max Reich's track is just the right blend of acid sounds and 808 drum loops. Add a LOT of distorsion and you're almost there; kind of like a Rob Acid track with a 80bpm tempo. Next one is a nice over-distortioned electro with a lot of handclaps. Next one by Electronome is just as distortioned as the previous one, an alien sountrack with a lot of bass. You all know the next one by I-F...I will leave it at that. Next one by Inigo Kennedy is alright, but I think it's too charged, a handclap every two measures is too much for me. Last one is an encore electro accoustic techno track from M. Dred and P. Green. Kind of like recording a robot under water while he's taking a bath. Overall, I'd give it a 9/10, maybe 9.5/10. Run and buy this one. Whoa, I'm off Sebastien Dalphond xxxxx@xxxxxxxx.xxx
