So do alot of other crap djs. Paul Oakenfold for example gets the
crowd moving, but he plays total crap.
Getting a crowd to move is not necessarily a sign of quality music.

What other drum n bass djs have you seen?

You are right that it is an assumption. I wouldn't recommend Aphrodite
or anyone like him on IDM because:

(A) there nothing remotely experimental or idmish about Aphrodite/alot
of jump up.(B) Almost every Aphrodite tracks sounds the same, he has a
formula and he doesn't do much to change things up. (C) There isn't
any "edge" to his music (D) It's a watered down/more pop accessible
version of a good form of music (E) It's boring

Also I am speaking from the point of view of someone who ordered
jungle/techno/idm for a year and a half for a record store. You get to
know people and their tastes (at least for your city or state). Not to
mention newsgroups give you an idea of how things are in other cities
(maybe not the full picture but an idea of it)

Most of the people that came into to the store that liked jump up
either came from a hardcore techno/gabber background or a hip hop
background. Of our customers no one that bought IDM bought Aphrodite
kind of stuff.

The IDM customers that bought jungle (at our store) were usually into
the Looking Good/LTJ Bukem stuff, Possible Records, techstep, and the
harder and darker drum n bass (like Chaos & Julia Set, Ed Rush/No U
turn, position Chrome, Squarepusher, Drill n bass etc.).

I am not saying that there aren't idm people out there that might like
the poppier stuff. AND sometimes it just has to do with how much
exposure they have to drum n bass. If you are new to it, then alot of
medicocre stuff might sound kind of fresh to you. And then the more
you learn about it, the further you get away from it.

On my scale of tastes I would rank Aphrodite about as high as Crystal
Method. Which is way low, but to some people it may be fresh and
new...and even cool.

What do I mean by bandwagon you ask?
Someone (it might of been you?) suggested that they hoped more idm
artists would go in this direction.
First of all, having rap in drum n bass isn't new. Puff Daddy, the
Fugees, and many others have jungle remixes. I don't know about you,
but I WOULD call it jumping on the bandwagon if all of a sudden a
bunch of IDM artists started to jump on this trend.

What is Autechre started doing a bunch of speed garage because it was
the "in thing". I don't know about you but I would be pretty
disappointed.

And as stated before, I would prefer the IDM artists
to continue to strive to break new ground rather.

There have been many on the market for quite a while.
This is however the first one I have heard being released by Elektra.

Whoah, this is the first thing I agree with you on. Of course, hip hop
and jungle have many ties. The drum breaks are an obvious similarity.
I have heard Eric B & Rakim and Public Enemy beats altered and used in
lots of d n b. Not to mention scratching, and even MCs.

really cool.

Uhh..maybe if there isn't very much MCing. It wouldn't be my
preference. Alot of the times the MC takes away from the music. I
don't know how many times the MC almost ruined the show for me.

With regards to Big Loada, i didn't like it or buy it.

Logical Progresion 3

Cool!

lecture."

I don't think my original post was any kind of lecture.
There were some recommendations, and my opinion. I tend to believe
that the people on the idm list are usually looking for electronic
music that is a more unique sound. More experimental, fresh sounds,
whatever you want to call it.

If you think Aphrodite is that, than post about it.

But you should expect people to agree or disagree to any post. If you
agree with me about a topic that fine, if you don't it just as fine. I
don't think any less of anyone. Were just talking about music and
that's tastes are subjective.

Cheers
