(sorry, have the feeling this > has already been discussed :) The National Film Board of Canada (usually called the NFB for short) produced a series of wildlife vignettes back in the early 70's that used to be shown on television here in Canada during commerical breaks. They were basically 30-60 seconds of footage of a particular animal with a bit of music and a narrator giving info about the animal ("The woodchuck lives in snowy climes", etc.). Anyone who grew up watching Canadian television in the 70's has these little things engrained in their skulls for all eternity, and they've been parodied many times on Canadian TV shows and movies. Anyway, both blokes from BoC lived in Canada for a bit when they were kids, and they say that these vignettes (and other NFB productions - they've done a *lot* of stuff, mostly little documentaries about Canada and animation) imfluenced both their film and music work.
