off WarpNet... H. K. (xxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxxx.xxx) 11:12:98 19:49:12 Window Licker EP review! He!He! Just received my advance promo copy of Window Licker. Great artwork DR! First of all Window Licker *IS* exactly the same track then the mp3 that circulated some times ago. I still love that track but I've already listened to it too many times to really care for it anymore. Secondly, there are only 3 tracks on the EP, I miss the old time where Aphex EPs sported 6 different tracks (ventolin). One day, singles will really mean singles, that is 1 track per disc. Anyways, track 2 "yoga" is a pretty fucked up track, it sounds like good old SAW2 loops torn up in a blender with vicious metallic beats, and on top of all that there's a synthetic voice calling a gymnastic session, with silly stuff like "move your hips to the right, to the left, ...". Then at one point he says: "Now I want you to move your vaginal muscles at my command..." Hilarious stuff. At about 3:00 the beats stops and then there's a wicked chords progression with more silly reverbed commands, it lasts about a minute and then all hell breaks loose for 30 seconds, like a concentrated version of the final minute of Bouncing buccephallus ball. The last track is called "my 61", it's surprisingly smooth (even though there's pretty hectic beats, but these sounds are very lush and quiet, like a drummer who's really fast but hits his drums very gently. I love the synth sounds in this track, it's like pink bubbles forcing their way through the water. This tracks reminds me a lot of Flim, except it's longer and has a more complex structure, you think the song is done and then he brings a completely new pattern to the song. At the end of the track, there's only the little bubbly synth left, it has some kind of bittersweet melody and then it fades out in complete bass frequencies, it's Aphex is burying the track to the ground, it's majestic and sad at the same time. Hopefully there will be a second CD released as well, three tracks of this isn't enough. I don't really know how aphex does it, but I always get a mental buzz listening to new Aphex stuff, even though his music is so simple. He really is the king. --he said he was gonna post up some real audio clips of it this weekend, site pending... ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
