Thanks for the sad news, and the link to the Phill Brown book. The later albums might not have many electronic instruments on them = except for Variophon and Hammond but they are superb.=20 It's also music which defies categorisation.=20 Gotta admit much of the early stuff seems dated and didn't actually grab = me at the time - but for me, the further they went the more interesting = they became. =20 I think Radiohead and Coldplay owe them a huge debt (as well as many = other bands like Porcupine Tree & Elbow who definitely acknowledged it). Thinking about it some more... maybe they shunned keyboard synths = because they were tainted with the click-track MIDI sequenced bright = synth-pop of their early days, which is a shame, because hand-played and = subtly tweaked synth textures might have sat very well in the later = albums.
