>Listening to Locust's "Morning Light" - what a fantastic album. >Very creative arrangements, atmosphere and vibe. >Surprised that Locust is so rarely mentioned here. >Are the other records as good? Well.. the general impression I got from this list was that Morning Light was a bit crappy, so it's one of the few I've not got. Having said that, the dislike may be down to the fact that it's got vocals on it and is 'poppy', which probably wouldn't bother me. Maybe I should get it. All the other Locust I've got ranges from good to amazing. The amazing: Natural Composite, Truth Is Born Of Arguments, bits of Weathered Well. The rest I've got (all pretty good): Flowers From The Darkness (on Touch, and not under the Locust moniker), the Autocreation album (Kevin Hector and Tara Pattison but with what sounds like significant MvH involvement), the recent Playing With Time (under MvH). Most of the tracks on Natural Composite also appeared on a Peel session - they're the best MvH I've heard, very bleak, gritty lo-fi ambience and what sounds like modular experiments served up with a huge chunk of 'emotion'. Truth Is... is more.. banging in places.. quite heavy cut-up drums. Flowers From The Darkness seems to be MvH's unreleased tracks from around the time of Weathered Well/ Natural Composite and is well worth grabbing.
