The problem is that your NOT LISTENING TO IDM!! just because autechre puts
out a record it shouldn't automatically be idm... 'but they were on
artificial intelligence six years ago- how can they have changed genres!!"
just because an artist collaberates with skam shouldn't make everything
else they do idm from now until eternity. Slap any other title on these
records and they'd shunned here, but no.. because '3000 of the smartest
people in the world' (quoting the SKA010 write up at forced exposure... are
there really 3000 of us!?) say so, it's IDM, even though only 2/3rds of
those letters are correct

Don't get me wrong, i really do love V/Vm, but i really don't think chart
runners is IDM, since there's not a single element of DANCE, RHYTHM,
whatever in it. Avant-Garde? Yes. Experimental? Yes. Industrial? Maybe.
IDM? Probably Not.
IDM _INFLUENCED_? Yes. But Madonna claims to be idm influenced, should we
all post are want lists for the variant version 23 Austrailian import of
'Like A Virgin' on this list now? No.
But that's what you get when you start labeling music, people. It's not
just _MUSIC_, it's not just _Dance Music_, it's _Intelligent Dance Music_...

>old NEW ELECTRONICA

isn't that an oxymoron? ;-)

well, maybe the issue is that people aren't descriptive enough in their
posts. Maybe instead of saying 'get the new v/vm it kicks ass' you should
write a quick review and at least get the basic idea across. Once you've
been around here long enough you'll find the people with similar musical
tastes whose faves you can always agree with.

Or maybe it's just that too many people on this list are closed minded big
time. I also think that the people who have discovered this music from a
'typical' techno/dance standpoint have a tendency to get into the 'this is
as experimental as i get' rut. (No offence to anyone). For example, my
pre-idm days were spent split between hip-hop and industrial (and i still
listen to both quite a bit), which puts IDM at a sort of middle ground for
me, giving a bit of room for motion in either direction (like the people on
this list who think the rawkus cats and dr. octagon are too 'un-intelligent').

or maybe it's just a stoopid little rant i'm going off too heavily on...
maybe i can end it with an 'unsubscr*be idm' like many more of the smartest
people in the world before myself (stuart, datatheif, gil...). or maybe not

NP: DONT DOLBY: 05 (Gefreim) [NOT IDM! IMHO]
