Random "Come To Daddy" thoughts.

"Come To Daddy" Pappy Mix -- I take this as a kind of hilarious
piss take. I live in Iowa, where a substantial number of the kids
think gabber and midwest hardcore is cool, and Atari Teenage Riot
has sold a lot of CD's. The satanic lyrics and distorto faux guitar
fits right in. It seems both a parody of that style, and an attempt
to do it one better. Not my prime listening choice, but fun for a few
listens.

"Flim" -- This one is lovely. People dis RDJ for random sounding breaks,
but the way the drumming fits into this track is awesome. In fact the
subtlety of the rhythm programming throughout this disk is amazing.

"Come To Daddy" Little Lord Fauntelroy Mix -- the star here is
the digital monkeying he does with the voice. Check the breakdown that
starts about 2:44, ending about 3:00 -- worth a track by itself...

"Bucephalus Bouncing Ball" -- another monument to rdj's fascination with
digital signal processing. Every sound here has been processed within
an inch of it's life. And those bouncing accelerandos are cool because
they fit into the track rhythmically. And the disorienting edits that
drop in little gaps of digital black keep you off balance.

"To Cure a Weakling Child" Contour Mix -- kind of weak beer compared to
the original. Just a collection of sonic tricks.

"Funny Little Man" video game music with pitch shifted vocals. Good fun,
kind of an electro feel, kind of like drexciya on laughing gas.

"Come To Daddy" Mummy mix. This has apparently been played out during
his recent tour. It is extremely abstract music, with samples of RDJ's
mother. This piece is lovely in it's obtuseness, a weird buzzing,
asymmetric mess.

"IZ-US" another of his melodic melancholy pieces, basically sampled drums
with a fender rhodes-sounding synth carrying the tune, and lots of strange
strange processing and stereo field tricks. Lovely.

Conclusion? The man refuses to play safe, and follows his own twisted muse.
If you're willing to go along for the ride, it can be big fun.
