I second that emotion. A typical Skam in that it defies easy categorization - save that it has *Skam* audio-imprints all over it. It seems to be two records superimposed to great effect....there's a really nice deep ambience about it (similar to quailty FAX stuff), yet it has the kind of programming and sampling which you loved about BoC running through and over the top of it, so that it can't be straightjacketed. The beats seem to flow over the top of things rather than to drive them from "underneath". Things swirl and bubble around in it; a rich sheen floats to the top. The melodic warmth and occasional sample add to the rich mix, making the title an apt one. Thus far, I'd have to say that it's the kind of soup that is an entree and not merely an appetizer. Also, you get the feeling that it's going to reheat and serve up for repeated listenings with no apparent leftover syndrome for some time. It makes you realize how much fast-food you've inadvertently dumped on your plate lately and long for more well-cooked fodder. jeff christian a. h. wrote: > report: > > Artist: Bola > Title : Soup > Label : Skam > Cat: Skald 2 (i believe...) > > track list: > > 1. glink > 2. versivo > 3. w.i.k. > 4. forcasa 1 > 5. forcasa 2 > 6. forcasa 3 > 7. pendulus > 8. amnion > 9. aguilla > 10. whoblo > > written, engineered & produced by the bolaman > recorded at the bolamachine > > summation: > > lovely, lovely melodies everywhere accompanied by infectious drum > programming and a healthy smattering of samples. it's good. really > good. in fact, it's so good, you can eat it with a fork. this release > definitely deserves mention on the 'best of' 1998 idm poll. > -- jeff ~Living in a world where Jesse("The Body") Ventura gets elected as a State Governor~ dancing/about/architecture "...with wandering steps and slow..."
