Brother Alphabet wrote: > > I was wondering what this was: > > Caustic Window: Compilation ok there are people who can tell you release dates, titles, color of label etc...about this one, i'm not one of them. this used to be sacred spotter territory, until this release anyway. to summarise, its a compilation of 3 (or 4) early rdj 12" singles released as caustic window, variously called "joyrex" or j w/ a number. they were originally released circa '93 or thereabouts, and have a noticeable acid / early techno sound. they were discussed a lot on this list as they are some of aphex's earliest releases and more importantly (were) rare as hell. this cd (3x12" versh also available) of reissues was rumored for about 2 yrs. i was unsubbed for a few months when it came out, but i haven't noticed much discussion (i was still on idm-reviews but i didn't see any reviews of itcome thru). some of it sounds basic and dated now. there are a few great tracks on there. one or two are what we used to call "nosebleed techno" - more in common w/ headbangers like motorhead than derrick may. maybe i'm wrong. there may have been a mountain of talk on the list when it was released (no reviews tho'), but it certainly gets discussed less today now that most people can hear it, than before the release when most people hadn't heard it. this seems to point to suspicion i have sometimes that rarity can count for more than the music. or maybe its that idm in particular dates more quickly than other forms of music, being v. much a product the latest technology available. sometimes its not clear which releases that may blow you away today w/ exciting new sounds, actually have the substance to keep you wanting to play it again next year. or even in 5 yrs time. -martin -btw- anyone else noticed the similarity between diy's "orange is orange" and boc's "aquarius"
