ok there are people who can tell you release dates, titles, color of label
etc...about this one, i'm not one of them. this used to be sacred spotter
territory, until this release anyway. to summarise, its a compilation of 3
(or 4) early rdj 12" singles released as caustic window, variously called
"joyrex" or j w/ a number. they were originally released circa '93 or
thereabouts, and have a noticeable acid / early techno sound. they were
discussed a lot on this list as they are some of aphex's earliest releases
and more importantly (were) rare as hell. this cd (3x12" versh also
available) of reissues was rumored for about 2 yrs. i was unsubbed for a few
months when it came out, but i haven't noticed much discussion (i was still
on idm-reviews but i didn't see any reviews of itcome thru).

some of it sounds basic and dated now. there are a few great tracks on
there. one or two are what we used to call "nosebleed techno" - more in
common w/ headbangers like motorhead than derrick may.

maybe i'm wrong. there may have been a mountain of talk on the list when it
was released (no reviews tho'), but it certainly gets discussed less today
now that most people can hear it, than before the release when most people
hadn't heard it. this seems to point to suspicion i have sometimes that
rarity can count for more than the music. or maybe its that idm in
particular dates more quickly than other forms of music, being v. much a
product the latest technology available. sometimes its not clear which
releases that may blow you away today w/ exciting new sounds, actually have
the substance to keep you wanting to play it again next year. or even in 5
yrs time.

-btw- anyone else noticed the similarity between diy's "orange is orange"
and boc's "aquarius"
