Some time ago I had to replace a 4010 module in an old all metal 2600.
After not having any luck in obtaining schematics and considering trying
to remove the epoxy, I eventually decided to replace the module with one
of my own invention based on the 4019 but with the pin out of the 4010.

And through that work the Oakley Classic VCA module was born.

I was certainly interested in finding out what went into the 4010 but I
wasn't curious enough to start playing around with horrible chemicals.
Colin Fraser has done it with all the Yamaha modules found in the GX-1,
SY-1, etc. But it was a laborious task for him. He found the best way
was to take just the lower section of epoxy between the board and the
bottom surface of the module. He then cut the PCB tracks to the now
revealed solder pads and with a component tester ascertained what
component and what value it was.

Thankfully, later ARP modules were filled with silicone with only an
epoxy seal that could, with care, be picked off. But those early ones
are solid epoxy.
