> Funckarma are a lot more complex and fresh, I think, at this point. > Funkstorung hasn't really done anything in a while. I loved the Funkstorung > stuff a while ago but remixes get old and I thought "Post ART" (their last > 12", right?) was seriously lacking. Oh well. the more i listen to funckarma's 'part 2' (still looking for part 1 ~ anyone?) the less i see a likening to funkstorung. sure, they use the same recipe for beats, but funckarma is way out there. they're doing exactly what i'd wish autechre had kept doing (read: interesting music), plus some stuff that i haven't heard anyone else doing. they're a top act in my book. speaking of funkstorung though... is it just me, or are the freeform & while 12"s really meant for 33rpm? i know funkstorung & affiliated projects (& swap, too) record at 45 (although they like to say that they can be listened to at both speeds, which is true for the most part), but 'seek' sounds way silly at 45 & 'glob' is too fast. i remember there being some discussion about this a few months ago but there seemed to be a consensus that 'seek' was meant for 45. anyway, at 33, 'seek' is easily in my 12" top 5 of the year, along with the aforementioned 'part 2'. though i doubt i buy enough records in a year to really be able to paste out a meaningful top 5, but there, dig my subjective judgement, dude. ~ david
