after screwing wit them both in stores, i'd say that the nord lead 2 impressed me much more than the virus...i can't exactly pinpoint what it was i disliked about the virus, but the nord lead sounded much nicer to me...very smooth and clean. (although the virus is pretty smooth too) neither does a great job of analog emulation imo...both sound very obviously digital to me. that blue novation box (supernova?) sounded much more convincingly analog to me...it'd be a great synth for doing generic techno...one good point about the virus is that you can run external signals through its filter...and one bad point about the nord lead is that everyone and their cat who is making idm has one or is about to get one. it's just too fucking nice not to want, if you're into its clean plasticky pseudo-analog sounds...in terms of value, i think they're about equal...each has a few nice things that the other doesn't; you should find a place that's got them both and screw with them side by side.
