Ok, I kinda know where you're coming from. When I was first exposed to
Autechre (Tri Repetae) I just couldn't get into it. Same with BoC and FSOL.
It was cool, but I couldn't appreciate it by listening to it *passively*.
That's the trick with these artists, esp. Ae, is that in order to fully
aprpeciate their art you have to be actively engaged in listening. Once I
started doing this, I found that music that I once thought "boring" was
really incredibly amazing. Try just relaxing in a comfy chair with
headphones on. Focus exclusively on the music (don't fall asleep) and just
think about it. Let it run through you mind and be the soundtrack for your
thoughts. Pretty soon you'll do this without even trying, it's a habit like
any other, but one that will enrich your life. It might soudn kind of
cheezy, but it's fact; you have to take a dialectical approach to music or
you simply limit yourself.
