I'm sure you're all drooling wanting to know what I like... :) But anyway. Dance music (old, new, cheesy, 91-93, doesn't claim to be intelligent but can be, would get me thoroughly mocked on this list...) Mader Rose, China Drum, Puressence, Matthew Sweet, Pavement, Belle and Sebastian, Urusei Yatsura, Bis, anything on Skint (yes, even the dreaded/evil Fatboy Slim), anything on Hardkiss/Sunburn, most anything on Liquid Sky/Jungle Sky/Home Entertainment, Sebadoh, Placebo (1st album, anyway), Madder Rose (did I mention they have a new album on August 10th? ;), Q-Burn's Abstract Message, Pimp Daddy Nash, Dubtribe, triphop before it was called triphop, triphop while it was called triphop, triphop that's still triphop even though people now feel the need to call it "big beat", Single Cell Orchestra, Freaky Chakra, Soul Coughing (is the tour cancelled, or not?), Altern8, Depeche Mode, New Order, Mogwai, Negativland, Chomsky (local band... check out http://www.spankradio.com/shows.html - not a great show, but the one I threw still hasn't got back to me on CD-R), Chavez, Helium, Yo La Tengo, Black Eyed Peas, Propellerheads, Hive, Madder Rose (gosh, they're great), Fluoroscopic Kid, One Piece (plug plug)... And that's about all i can think of off the top of my head, looking around my room, unless you wanna count Portishead and FSOL. Oh yeah, and Dooms UK, another local band. I feel the need to explain... I started listening to decent music around 15... local alternative radio station. Back in those days (92?), commercialism hadn't fully set in yet, so it was still possible to hear some weird/good shit on this station (this was also about 2 owners ago?). I really started to open up. All the songs were new, I'd never heard them before, and they were so different. It was exciting. From there, it was my "local music" phase. I went to lotsa shows, was big on supporting local music, etc. You know, Tripping Daisy only had one album out, the Toadies were a new band, that kind of thing. Yes, I even went to see Deep Blue Something a few times (full disclosure has now been made). Oh yes, this was also tied in with my synthpop phase where I worshipped the ground a local band called Channel 69 walked on. Now I'm real embarrassed. Anyway, I still like local music, but a lot of it's gone generic or lamely angry. I started poring the net for music to listen to, found a few bands from 120 Minutes (they do play some good stuff now and then), picked up on the techno records I had been buying all along because of the radio mix show I was listening to... and that brings us to today. I wouldn't say I've grown out of most of the music I liked, I just found new areas to focus on. Nowadays, I mostly listen to indie pop, DDM (dumb? dancy? whichever), and IDMish stuff. I've prattled for too long.
