techno animal - demonoid 12” [city slang EFA09704-C]

having worked with such mercurial talents [to name a few] as iggy pop / bill burroughs
[for bill laswell’s ‘assassins’ project] & jon hassell / bedouin ascent [on ‘re-entry’]
as well as being sampled excessively by ed rush ['sector 3'] and snapped up by the
doyens @ grand royal, techno animal’s forthcoming ‘vs. reality’ long player has long
been the subject of much expectant lyrical waxation, conceptually based around the
competitive one-upmanship of the jamaican sound clash, wherin sound systems & dj’s
battle it out with soft black plastic and a microphone in place of cold hard steel, ‘vs.
reality’ will pit the techno animal duo of kevin martin & justin broadrick up against
the mercurial talents of porter ricks, alec empire, ui, tortoise & spectre amongst
others on a competitive rather than collaborative footing

for this sampler 12” the flesh has been applied, or more accurately applied then
charred, onto bare bones provided by the berlin based duo of andy mellwig & thomas koner
[aka porter ricks] and ninja tune / jazz fudge’s dub-concrete hip hop scientist dj vadim

“demonoid” , showing no mercy, drops a grimy pulsing diskotek groove lovingly
constructed by porter ricks and brimming with the same tension as killing joke’s ‘the
wait’ into a seething maelstrom of white, pink & black noise, 4 minute warning sirens
pierce the air [constructed by members of sound system legend jah shaka’s crew btw],
buildings collapse, society crumbles

"animalized" [to be featured in the film version of welsh's 'the acid house’] was
apparently developed from an aborted dj vadim remix project, wonder why?, maybe vadim
overheard the torture broadrick & martin were inflicting on his music and scarpered
pronto, elephantine crunchy compressed hip hop breaks provide the back drop for barely
audible dissonant subliminal manipulation of dark voices mumbling secular secrets &
brutalised atmospherics painting the sky a dark shade of grey
