This is a description of a machine I built which I have called the
"Beach Hut Clang".

There are four stages :

Trigger Pulse
Sound Generator
VCF
VCA

Trigger Pulse
The level sensitive input pulse is a maximum 5v, This may be triggered
from a microphone, a drum pad a sequencer or a drum machine.

Sound Generator
The Clang features two sound generators, white noise and a bank of ring
modulated oscillators. You have a mix control to select how much white
noise or ring mod osc you want.

For instance if you want to create a early Wurlitzer drum box style
cymbal or hi-hat choose all white noise. If you like the early Roland
cymbal sound add a measure of the ring mod oscillators to taste. In this
way you can shape the sound exactly as you want it. During testing The
Clang reproduced some cymbal and hi-hat sounds from a Roland 808,
Wurlitzer Swing Rhythm, a Yamaha MR10, Yamaha RX15, Acetone Rhythm Ace,
Acetone Rhythm King and an Acetone Rhythm Master.

VCF
The next stage is a -12dB/octave Voltage Controlled Filter. Here you
select the filter characteristic from a choice of Lowpass, Bandpass or
Highpass. Use the Envelope Generator to shape the cut off envelope.

VCA
The final stage is a Voltage Controlled Amplifier. The VCA is triggered
by the input pulse and shaped by an Envelope Generator.
