Planet E's release roster is looking very busy. With all of the activity, it seems understandable that they would want to streamline whatever possible to make releases more affordable and more frequent. Reducing a record label to a template that can fit a single color design is a good place to start. It does not hurt the quality of the production or the release to do this. Major releases are obviously being released in an expensive full color sleeves. I would imagine that the full color sleeves are given to releases with higher pressing quantities, marketability, demographic expectations and so on. It looks like reasonable business practice to me. Hopefully it will mean that they make more money, release more new titles and find the budget to actively maintain a full back catalog. Artwork is expensive to produce and it is more expensive without simple templates. I have been looking at the cost of pressing vinyl so that I can release tracks by friends of mine and myself. It is becoming apparent that very little money is made on vinyl. We are lucky that US releases are still being pressed to vinyl at all. steven mark s-walker wrote: > I have to say that I'm really disappointed with what Carl & co. are doing > with their label artwork recently.
