old news around here, but I found it on todays update.... __________________________________ Musician finds interesting uses for Mac OS' Fred by Dennis Sellers, xxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxx.xxx April 13, 1999, 6:30 am ET If you've ever tried to make your Mac speak you might have noticed how little control you have over how the voice actually comes out. But an underground electronic musician, Cylob (aka Chris Jeffs) has done some interesting things with the Mac speech technology. He cut up the voice of "Fred" in order to replicate the syncopated speech usually found in hip-hop songs. Cylob is an artist at Rephlex Records, founded by Richard James. According to info on the Rephlex Web site, Cylob is the "backbone" of the company. While other artists the label has launched have "flittered off" to big name music labels, Jeffs continues to release techno freakscapes that emanate "like transmissions from the dead air between television stations." "His two Kinesthesia EP's pounded your senses into blissful submission while his Empathy Box album ventured in more sedate electronic territory," says his bio at Rephlex. "His Empathy Box remix EP has become a trainspotter classic. Now recording exclusively under his Cylob alias (with which he has already released one eardrum damaging EP and two albums), you can expect much more in the way of conveniently packaged sonic explorations from Chris." And maybe we'll hear some more interesting uses of Mac voices... Ernesto Ikerd, (817) 763-4795 Company Graphics, Dept 17, MZ-1156 Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems Fort Worth, Texas
