Ya Know,
I think the designers Republic do some fabulous work.
They're images have dazeled me, while their sense of wit has brought more than
a smile to my face. They are without a doubt one of my favorite desgn firms,
and are an inspiration for my own pursuit as a graphic designer.
As a result of their work has played an important role in the way we see the
packaging of electronic music...
But I'm just tired seeing so much of it, and I'm tired of seeing any and every
electronica label turning to the republic for them to create an identity that
has already supersaturated this genre. Good example: Florida based Schematic
Records and Chocolate Ind. have, or are, turning to them for graphic services.
However, Romulo of schematic made a good point: their finished pieces feel
like a product.
Labels from around the world, I realize that tDR create some amazing work. but
instead of looking for their expertise, why not look for home grown talents.
If you've seen some of the really old Designers Republic work, it was
sersiously no hot shit, and maybe you'll develop a working relationship with
the next Neville Brody, David Carson, Tomato, or Designers Republic.
