Re: [WAP127] 12" -- Warp (Nov 15th) ~ black commandments (silicon scalley) ~ big-clapper (c-pij) ~ hope we never surface (kenny hawkes) Another fine little remix project originating from the 2LS camp. Silicon Scalley releases their crackling electro exuberance, by rearranging and recreating a harsh workout of blips and beeps that you might hear a robot humming to in a metal factory. This one works really nice, with its technical rhythms, and moving soundscape. It seems to be missing the dark bending bassline that was one of the main highlights of the original track though. "Big Clapper" loses its luscious beats, and gets dipped into a sea of ambient undercurrents.. all the while, a strange horn that rings in the background creates a whirling effect that is sometimes high-pitched, spacious, and airy all at the same time. "Hope We Never Surface," which was one of my favorite tracks from the 'Stay Down' full-length is totally resurfaced (literally). That skittery ambient quality that makes the original so wonderful, is transformed into a techno/house anthem that is semi-alright, but nothing to write home about. I'm kind of disappointed with this version, although i guess you can't always make an already amazing track any better by remixing it.
