My experience with them (as many people on this list) has been that none of the releases hit me for awhile after purchase. I bought Incunabala when it came out, and though it just sounded like rip off old Front 242. Then that summer it hit me and I fell in love. Next was Amber, and the same thing: it wasn't dancey, no 808 beats, it was weird man. Now Amber is my all time favorite Ae release. It has a deep coldness to it and at the same time a certain pensive warmth to it. I don't find this album boring at all. Every song sound very different from the one before it, while still being very cohesive, which I can't say about newer Ae material... The other Ae releases only get more complex/abstract. A lot of us know their sounds and 'tricks' by now, so perhaps we know what to expect. I think they are bordering on complexity for complexity's sake, but still, it's some pretty amazing programming they are doing. just give it a while, you'll be brainwashed like the rest of us:) peace Nate PS if you do indeed consider yourself a 'newbie', then I think you will find that upon collecting other material, some good some not, you'll get a 'bigger picture', which will make you appreciate Ae's talent even more. It did for me. > All-- > > If there's one thing I don't understand as a relative newbie to > idm, it's all the fuss over Autechre.
