>Can any .nl-ers out there tell us whether the title of the Mike= P / Speedy J >disc 'Slag boom van loon' means anything? Looks crazy enough to= mean something >in dutch :-) Mmmm... my dictionary translates 'slagboom' (one word) as just= 'barrier' - which can mean just about anything. A 'slagboom' is= the thing that's used to close a road (or the entrance and exit of a= parking etc.), a long pole that can swing up to let cars= through, or be crashed through by the bad guys during a car chase in bad police movies= when it's closed. Is there a better word for that than just= 'barrier'? 'Van Loon' doesn't actualy mean anything, but it's a pretty= common Dutch last name (now that i think of it, there was a= Robin van Loon in my class at primary school). However.... 'Slagboom Van Loon' appears to be the name of a electrotechnical= company from Rotterdam (where Speedy Jochem lives), so I suppose= they got it from there, and put in the space between 'Slag' and= 'boom' to avoid legal stuff or something. Maybe it's even the= company that did all the wiring in Speedy's house or studio (just as he= probably dines out a lot at the Indian restaurant on the inside= of the cover). Anyay, it makes more sense than Sonic Youth's "Slaapkamers met= slagroom" form earlier this year, which translates as "Bedrooms= with whipped cream". Oh well... Maarten
