zenon the idm grandmaster queried: > "Urban Music"? > What the hell is that? A euphemism. Afraid so: you should see the 'urban music' record library at the radio station I DJ for: inasmuch as the 'rock' and 'RPM' sections are perfect allegories of suburban streets with alphabetized houses and tree-lined shelving, the 'urban' section remains the perfect allegory for that zone known as the "inner-city" (in itself, a euphemism for "ghetto"): housed in a pair of broken-down metal cabinets (for locking purposes, I honestly think), records remain in no discernible order, totally jumbled up in US Mail bins. Only 3/4 of them are even labeled to library standards; CD cases usually broken and 12" singles all mis-sleeved, if sleeved at all. Speaking of which, anyone heard the new Brand Nubian LP? If not -- Highly, highly recommended. You gotta love any new hip hop coming out today that dares to represent to the **real** meaning of 'old-school': UNITY (not to mention intelligent social critique). Militantly required IDM content to this post (apologies to the ambient list)? Well, last time I was at --OTHER MUSIC-- (there.) I picked up a japanese import CD of an ooooold Afrika Bambaataa mix tape - 'Death Mix.' And 'Death Mix' is right - one listen would send the Puffys and the Snoopies straight to the grave outta *shame*! peacin' out yo fresh mutha wit 'nuff respek, sr -- sd (signifier over signified signing off)
