From Andrew Duke Cognition Sent Fri, Jan 22nd 1999, 13:12
just had a chance to give this one quick listen at work yesterday: Model 500--Mind And Body RS99145 (BE/R & S) released 1 March 1999 1. Psychosomatic 6:15 --w/ Low Res, experimental electro 2. Everyday 9:14 --w/ Rob Hood; hip hop tempo w/ FV rap and MV in intro 3. Incredible 6:24 --drum n bass w/ FV 4. In And Out 5:43 --w/ MV 5. Rain 5:58 --w/ FV, sounds like an Erykah Badu track actually 6. Tipsy 5:50 --w/ FV, more uptempo #5 7. Just Maybe 5:29 --w/ MV; phased break rhythm, FV added 1/2 thru; hip hop attitude in lyrics 8. Mind And Body 6:17 --w/ Low Res; experimental at hip hop tempo 9. Be Brave 5:02 --poppy w/ MV, FV, and acoustic guitar 10. It's Time 4:15 --Cybotron-style electro w./ MV again, this is from one quick listen at work, thus the quick notes; notes: MV= male vocal (not always Juan), FV = female vocal (a number of different women); full tracklisting and detailed notes in the News section on http://www.globalserve.net/~cognition was hoping there'd be at least one 4 on the floor piece *(like "I Wanna Be there" on 1995's "Deep Space" album), but there's not a one to be found. where you could see the sound of Infiniti in the last Model 500 album, this Model 500 album is a separate entitity from the Infiniti "skynet"; overall, it's got more of the feel of "Deep Space"'s "The Flow"; every track --other than the two done with Danny "Low Res" Zelonky-- has vocals. In fact, it's all quite accessible, and the Zelonky collaborations are the two experimental ones (makes sense that they would be experimental, but figured Juan would do some on his own). Two zelonky collaborations actually sound more zelonky than atkins when compared to the other 8 tracks. again, this is after one quick listen, my opinions may change with future listens. interesting to note that the remixes of be brave are an improvement on the original (IMO, and a few others') and it's be brave's bside: psychosomatic (one of the two zelonky collaborations) that has the reviewers saying "this is the bomb". ("go danny, go danny!" ;)) i lost part 4 of InTHe mix show 578 in my computer screwup, so i'll try to redo it today with one of the songs from this forthcoming album included and some other forthcoming material (common factor, wildplanet, etc) (if i can borrow a cd player; my computer's cd rom crashes the computer when used now). and got a promo of the cd itself, so can't report on the packaging, etc sorry bout the blab, just woke up Andrew PS will be premiering the release soon on Cognition (again, computer is holding me hostage on what's comin' up :( ) -- Andrew Duke Cognition Audioworks 1096 Queen St #123 Halifax NS Canada B3H 2R9 TEL 902-422-7132 FAX 902-422-1262 http://www.globalserve.net/~cognition (Cognition Audioworks/In The Mix: listen : read) --online now: world premieres:Merrick Brown/Stewart S.
