While I don't remember the specifics of the post, I do remember agreeing
with it for the most part.
Some things worth looking into off the top of my head (vaguely in order
from least noisy to most):
Oval - 94diskont (thrill jockey) - you've heard the hype; well this
record will make you believe it.
alt.noise comp (Switch) - has a really silly looking cover, but is
actually one of the best compilations I've heard in a long time - has both
quite accessible "noisy" things and balls out power noise and everything
in between.
dissolve compilation (Fused Coil) - a reissue of a comp. originally
called Melt (do NOT buy the comp called melt on Fused Coil, or anything
else on that label - mostly just terrible shit) that was on Works in
Progress. a couple of bad tracks but for the most part just beautiful low
key noise. :zoviet*france: and Beequeen are on it if that gives you any
idea (both of whom are well worth looking into by themselves - Beequeen's
"the surrough gate" 10" being the most recent thing I can think of;
quite wonderful - Rapoon's "Just say the faith" is quite good as well
but in a slightly different area).
Decay compilation (Touch) - from rhythmic noise to unadulterated field
recordings. A quality CD for that kind of thing but not mindblowing.
Merzbow - Scumtron (Blast First) - the only Merzbow CD worth owning.
The one with original merzbow tracks and the autechre, panasonic, etc.
remixes. Autechre and Panasonic are by _far_ the most "normal" things on
here though... but it's mostly pretty good.
Shiroseasons comp. - on Daniel Menche's label. Aube, Menche himself,
Small Cruel Party and some other guy each do 15 minutes of ambient noise -
unbelievably awesome. Each track is a true head trip, often constructed
with very minimal sounds.
Nurse with Wound - Homotopy to Marie, to the Quiet Men... (United
Dairies) These are several steps beyond Farmers Manual on the music/noise
ratio - things rattle, bizarre fragments of conversation, bricks fall,
etc. Uncompromising to say the least but I love it. Soliloquoy for Lilith
is much more accessible and utterly brilliant, but the aesthetic has more
in common with Lamonte Young than any noise artists.

There are many, many more... If you like aggressive, distorted, noisy idm,
there's always Panacea and Techno Animal (whose Phobic 12" I just picked
up and it is currently destroying the foundations of my house)...
Panasonic is good, as is the empty set (dunno how you get that symbol)...
wierdos from texas and new zealand releasing impossibly limited edition
12"s of nothing but windup toys and static are always fun if you can find
them cheaply.
In short, there's too much stuff for me to even try to touch all the
bases, but happy hunting.
