Well, since nobody has mentioned it, and it's been over a week I thought I
might write up a very tiny review of the Neotropic/Hexstatic/Vadim/Dark
Knight show that happened last friday here in Ottawa/Hull.

First off let me say that they picked one of the coolest places to hold an
event like this. It was in the grand hall of the canadian museum of
civilisation. Nice big ceilings, very cool view of the harbour behind.
Neotropic opened the show at around 9:20 or so. Having never heard her
before, I can say that she wasn't bad. However I don't think she fit in with
the rest of the artists there; pretty spacy and ethereal. Hexstatic had an
awesome live show. All of his stuff was video clips chopped around. He
started out with a bunch of layered loops of the mouths of news anchors.
Also did one with a battle between ninjas from some B movie. There was a
very cool thing he played that started out with an animation of Simon (that
round game with the four buttons that you had to immitate the pattern of),
and another one that had clips from Asteroids and a bunch of other older
monochrome video games. The only other two I can remember is a cut up
grandmaster flash video, and timber.

As for DJ Vadim, he was less than fully impressive live. I suppose most of
his album stuff isn't really danceable, and wouldn't make for a great live
show, but I never felt that what he did play had anything to it. Dark Knight
was allright, but I think that's because I had fewer expectations from him
than I did Vadim, and they played pretty similar (although I think DK's was
better) live sets. All in all it was pretty cool, and between sets they
played Chris Cunningham videos on the screen. Nothing like seeing Come To
Daddy on a good screen. They played Squarepusher, Come To Daddy, and Window
Licker, but unfortunately no Ae.

Pretty good show, but Vadim live is nothing like I expected. Hex is very
cool to see on a decent screen though.
