Once upon a time, clubs were boring places where DJs played crap records =
over a dodgy system and the most you could expect in the way of visual =
entertainment were those nausea-inducing lights that spin round on the =
floor. Thankfully, those days have faded into a distant memory as the =
growth of DJ culture has been matched over recent years by the =
development of increasingly sophisticated sonic design and club art. And =
now Sub.Merge, in association with one of the country's leading party =
promoters DiY, are here to take things=20
to the next level?

On September 4 1998, the Sub.Merge crew will descend upon Liverpool's =
Cream club to present a whole new clubbing experience to party-goers =
across the North-West. Using various forms of electronic trickery, =
Sub.Merge will create a unique interface between clubbers, DJs and =
visual crews, allowing clubbers to influence what they are hearing or =
seeing by exploring the club environment, through a series of gizmo's =
hidden around the venue. Sub.Merge will create a living party space, =
blurring the relationship between performers and audience, and getting =
people involved. All are welcome,=20
Inertia is not an option!

Music for the night will be provided by DiY jocks Digs & Woosh, the =
newly crowned jazz techno king Ian O'Brien and DJ Wada, plus live sets =
from Scanner and the stars of the emerging Japanese dance scene Sublime =
Records duo Co-Fusion (who are being specially flown in for the event), =
while visuals will be provided by the likes of D-Fuse, Tractor and =
Hexstatic (tbc). Sub.Merge is part of ISEA, an international conference =
