Sorry this is not in the (hijacked) thread where it belongs. Has to do with how I read the AH emails. I have used a GQ-3X programmer from MCU Mall in Canada for many years. It works well and I have not had any issues with it. It actually uses USB for communication and power, unlike the Willem programmers. For some of the older types that need more current for programming, it says "external power required" when that part is selected. In that case you connect an AC adapter to it as well. I try to stick with parts that it can program using only the USB cable. I think pretty much all of the CMOS parts, like 27C256, etc are in that category. One thing that is nice about this one is that it support 2516 and 2532 parts, which were used by a few synths. These have a non-std pinout, and many programmers do not support them. I don't think the GQ-3X is being offered any more, but the 4X should be of similar quality I would think. Not sure it supports the 25xx parts, though.
