>From the Bent Crayon mailout: DJ SPEED RANCH VS. JANSKY NOISE: Execrate Configuration 00 12" (leaf). "Manchester's DJ Speedranch and Jansky Noise (the latter one half of the notorious V/Vm crew) are lighting the blue touch paper beneath the stagnating remains of the established music industry. Love them or loathe them, these two are provoking a welcome reaction, a kick up the arse of music. Speedranch and Jansky Noise's first mix CD (entitled Welcome To Execrate)will be released on March 1st by The Leaf Label, a mash up of exclusive tracks by the likes of Stock Hausen & Walkman, 2nd Gen and DJ Olive (from We), and turntablists like Mix Master Mike and Otomo Yoshihide, as well as plenty of their own compositions. This limited edition 12" DJ tool [Andrew's note: it's limited to 1000 copies] is a taster for the album, containing eight pieces with which the discerning (or downright strange) DJ can create his or her own Execrate-style mix. While it cannot really be described as a sampler for the mix CD - with typical perversity most of the cuts on the 12" will not be featured in the mix - it does give a flavour of the terrors to come. Side X is extreme noise terror (the track I'm listening to right now on this side is a man's screaming timestretched over and looped). O side is gritty and rhythmic. Some humorous elements brighten the dark on occasion.
