I found recently a much better trick for several old stickers (but might not work with every type of glue residue): I put a sheet of kitchen paper towel (right word?) on the residue and then heat it a little up with the hairdryer. The warmth will make the sticky residue more fluid and the residue will stick much mor on the paper towel than on the metal surface. You can wipe away the glue residue quite easily. If the sticker itself is still on the device, then warm up the sticker itself. It will leave much less residue on the surface.
