When I managed a student-run art house in Baltimore, I would be left with
three 10' tall 1500W JBL 'Voice of the Theatre' speakers and a 3000W
subwoofer after the films were run. At one in the morning, I'd leave, grab
a bag of warm beers, come back with some friends and a deck of cards and
listen to our music as loud as possible. Campus security's office was right
underneath the theatre and we'd always get the odd visit from a cop or two
about the 'noise.'

Believe me -- you'll never hear Autechre's Envane in the same way after you
hear it with a subwoofer of that power, though. Bass is essential, because
you not only hear the music, but feel it, too. Bass is just one more
important part of the whole experience of music, up there with reverb and
lava lamps.
