The often forgotten use for a phaser is the static phaseshift, which
only provides a (typically unrecognized) spectrum of the sound. It is
like the first reflections in a reverb, which you do not really
recognize. But as soon as you start to change the phaseshift manually
(for example at the end of a bridge as buildup to a chorus), the effect
on the listener is incredible. It is like someone begins to move the
walls of the room in which you lived for many years. This is very
different to the reception of a standard modulated phaser which is faded in.

And something other I do very often is putting a phase on the FX-return
of a stereo ping-pong delay. Example
http://www.florian-anwander.de/musik/ripples_first.mp3. (I already
posted this example here at some other time).
It is only a drummachine and a arpeggio (either SH-101 or Juno-6 - I do
not remember) in the phasered ping-pong delay. The delay is a clock
synchronized MX-200 through a Dopefer A-101-3 phaser.
