Hey. Looking for new dropkick-ass funk that is not retro, not cheese, not diluted into acid jazz or uncreative hip-hop (Note: too-hard 4/4 beats distract). Reference points: Certain 3-second snatches of sqpusher's Two-Bass Hit + break in the middle of Track 4 (name escapes me, sorry) on the initial release of Big Loada, backtrack of the new Jay-Z single (no kidding, regardless of the asinine chatter overhead and the excessive Busta influence). JB not P-Funk. Dig? This is a serious call for help, 'cos what I'm looking for I haven't found. The essence of funk has not been translated to these times, or I haven't found it. Danceable funk that's still clipped out to hell, stripped down, syncopated, anything possible. Additional touchstone, not to be taken too seriously as a funk reference, but still viable for all sorts of reasons: Cap'n Beefheart. Naturally, I'm still talking in the IDM vein, suggestionwise, tho' anything's appreciated on private e-mail. If I had the equipment, I'd try to make this stuff meself, but solo bass doesn't quite do it. I appreciate any suggestions that even fall in this direction, as far as artists, labels, anything. It's been too long since I've been legitimately excited by a new release anywhere near funk. And on the funk: did someone post info as to the funkstorung tour, or where to find info thereabouts? I might've missed it-- I've been deleting like crazy these past few days: hectic life, for the first time in a long time. Thanx, etc. M. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's up.
