Actually, there's 2 Beau mixes of Basscadet, one is vinyl only.

Beau has been an IDM staple since his 1993 release Tastes & Textures Vol.1.
I think he rates up there w/ Black Dog & early AFX as having made some of
the best post-Detroit (I'm talking 1st wave Detroit) pure techno. Since
the release of Sculptured, Husikesque (w/ Lida Husik), & Out Of Tune (by
Outcast Productions, which is Beau & Richard Brown), it seems to me that
he's been floundering a bit stylistically, trying to crossover into other
genres with mixed results. Still, I thought the Notions Of Tonality EPs
were brilliant, and I have reason to believe that the Tones album, if ever
released, will be further explorations of Beau's brand of IDM-style techno.

Unfortunately, Beau is stuck on Wayne Archibald's GPR label, which seems to
be perpetually on the brink of bankruptcy. The release schedule has become
increasingly sporadic, with last year's Digital Millenium cash-in comp.
being the last release I know of. Tones has been promised for a couple of
years now, and I'm worried it may never see the light of day.

Another problem is that all the GPR stuff is now out-of-print, except maybe
Digital Millenium - at least it's the only thing I see in stock anymore.
So, if you get into Beau, be prepared to troll the FS/FT lists. Luckily,
the only item that seems to be fetching collector's prices (so far) seems
to be the Texturology Ltd. 2x12". Or you could find someone w/ a large
Beau collection & a CD burner (hint hint ;).

As far as rating Beau's stuff, starting w/ my faves & working down:
Texturology Ltd. (this has nothing to do w/ the Texturology CD, though they
look similar), Tastes & Textures 2 (Basic Data Manipulation), Notions Of
Tonality 1&2, T&T3, T&T1, Psi-Onyx, Y03, Texturology, Ormeau, Sculptured,
Husikesque, Evening at The Grange (Husik), Out Of Tune, & Rollercoaster.
Unfortunately, it seems like Texturology & Sculptured are what most people
hear, and I don't think they're good representations of his work.

I'd like to know what Beau has been up to of late - the last release I know
of is a remix on Bjork's Telegraph, & that was last year, wasn't it?

On a side note, has anyone heard Cherry Bomb's (Richard Brown) Electronics
for Dogs LP on Freedag Nuveaux? And have there been any releases on Beau
& Richard's Mutant Disco label?
