I haven't had the > opportunity to catch his tour, but after listening to lex live from the > bent-crayon site, it seems his set is a bit too complex to be live (in any > sense of the word). well, for people like farmers manual, oval, etc. they are generally making most of their music all with software, some of them with personally customized software. so it's possible for them to make their music live with a laptop because that's how they do it in the studio. as for more idm type bands, they're generally just playing sound files off of their hard drive (same as playing them off a cd player or dat)...unless the laptop is connected to some samplers/synths in which case it's just being used to sequence them.
