(idm) indier than you: cheap cd subscriptions?

it seems to me perhaps a bit perverted that the listmember cd that got
all the talk lately is the one we all got for free (the kumquat one, of
course!) not that it's a bad thing, but then i see this other fellow
(delusions of reference) who wishes to sell his cd for $5, shipping
included, which is an extremely _fair_ price but i think -- who is going
to order one?

let me throw this idea in the air & see if i get any responses, but:

if you paid, say, $40 for a "subscription" to receive such very indie
cds every month or so (say, a total of 5-6 or so) directly to your
mailbox, wouldn't that be more interesting than sending the same money
to 6 different places & see what you get?

not sure how this could work or who could implement this (not me!) but
i'm thinking that it could be an easy way to get records out to a steady
public. it is beneficial to the artist (they know exactly how much to
press & won't lose money in the process) as well as to the audience
(only one check to send or even one credit card operation).

i know i've been contemplating getting the $100 deal from vinyl
communications though $100 is quite a thing to shell out of your pocket.
however, underscore for one has a similar deal for their shift-minus
series & it makes them _very cheap_.

so i'm just wondering. is this thing appealing? do people go for that?
the subscription thing makes sense in my mind, but having heard
virtually no talk on this list about it, i'm wondering whether it's only
a good idea waiting for people to catch on it or just a hopeless pipe
dream. knowing how good the listmembers' output has been lately,
however, i'm thinking that perhaps someone should look into that. &
more importantly, the scene _needs_ support. putting good music out is
only getting halfway there. you guys have to be hyped into actually
buying it -- rather than the latest autechre or squarepusher ep which
you're going to hate anyhow. :)

la la... sorry for going on such tangents. it's tangent day today.
