(idm) Re: (amb) "NewAge" wasn't always such a dirty word

I recall things about the same way as A. Haley mentioned...
Initially the music was being referred to as 'Space Music' until as late as the
mid 80's, when "new age" (the """religion""") started being covered and pop-
culturefied by people like Shirley Maclaine...Soon after that there was a hippie-
like music movement into which people were crammed regardless of their true
musical objectives by a money-maddened music industry.

Nothin wrong with money...But it totally clouded the overall genre by
default...now only those who knew who was who before can draw the line...On
the plus side, the new age hoopla did bring new success to some talented but
obscure people...

Really...In 1989 Vangelis' score to Chariots of Fire was so hard to find it was
silly, plus it cost me 25 bucks to get as an import (after 1.5 years of
searching). Not one year later the reissued it domestically (I could smack
someone for that!) - Not only that, nearly a decade of his music was gradually
re-released over the next few years. Then, Tangerine Dream's old stuff:
"Digitally remastered" (or whatever :) ) - etc etc etc...The new age craze
brought a lot of obscure electronic artists to the front...it's just like any other
'category' in that you have to weed out the crap to find the good stuff.
