Hi James I wouldn't say they are boring, but they are overused. Nothing against the possibility of having a second oscillator for sync or X-mod, but the usual beating two osc "fat" bass sound isn't fat at all - it is vague and imprecise. You can do much assertive (right word?) and precise sound with single oscillator sounds. If you want smooth pad chords, take one oscillator and a chorus.
