to my experience the potentiometers can be cleaned / flushed nicely when you remove them from the pcb. You don't have to open the housing, there are enough slots. Desolder the potentiometer from the pcb, spray Caig FL5 into the potentiometer, let it soak, wash the solved dirt out with medical alcohol (or again FL5), give it a good shot of compressed air (from the can into the small opening at the center position opposite to the contacts side), then apply Caig FL100, turn five times forward backward, let it "dry" for 10 minutes and then solder the potantiometer back into the pcb. At least at the two 808's , which I restored, this worked like charm. One of them is my daily 808 :-) -- http://www.florian-anwander.de
