Hi all, I recently started a label 'Future By Design', and have just pressed my first solo album under the artist name (also) 'Future By Design'. So for those of you into supporting independent, homegrown music - read on... "Long Journey Home" is an eclectic mix of mellow Drum 'n' Bass, Jazz, House and Garage, with 13 tracks in total, and a running time of 72m 36s. The CD and double LP are both priced at =A313.99 including postage and packing in the UK (add =A31 for postage of the CD/LP outside the UK). The double LP will only be available from September 1st. As a label the concept is to promote music to people and break down the barriers of style, in order to make people realise music can be more to do with strength through unity, rather than cliques, division, and closed-mindedness. The album represents not a group of people or a style, but an attitude which is positivity in music. Anthony Ewers, 16/03/98. Anthony Ewers appeas to be something of a musical mogul. 'Future By Design' is a moniker for his trippy combination of drum & bass-meets garage forays, as well as being his record label (which has just been given funding by the Prince's Youth Business Trust). The ethos of the label is to "promote music to people and break down the barriers of style, in order to make people realise music can be more to do with strength through unity, rather than cliques, division, and closed-mindedness". And if this 12-track CD is anything to go by, he's lived up to his mission statement, as well as showing an obvious business head. The tracks aren't out-and-out commercial efforts, it looks like Anthony would prefere a strong underground following instead. All the material has a strong identity; slap bass adorns many tracks, which is a bit of an oddity given the genre - but it works a treat. Stylistically the music spans from hard drum & bass to lifting jazz-influenced offerings, kind of akin to James Hardway - and every bit as individual too... VERDICT:- Keep on that path... 8/10. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Review by Simon Greeen of the 'UK-Dance' mailing list, and 'RAYA' <http://c8.com/raya>. As rumours of a Drum 'n' Bass revival abound will it make any sense? Ipswich based Anthony Ewers proudly ignores the genre struggle between jump up and dolphin, and re-works an idea dissed by the anti-intellectual massive as meaningless hypocrasy, and injects some much needed context - ie: accessible and stand alone musical freshness. And why not. it's more than just dolphin! Mixing complicated sub-bass and spiked funk rhythm patterns with inter-laced melody anthony consistantly keeps production and feel near the top of his studio agenda.
