Have to mention this:

Scanner vs. Si-{cut}.db / The Bovine Revolver (The Sprawl Imprint) / 12"

"The Bovine Revolver" is the first release on vinyl from The Sprawl Imprint,
and my first encounter with the label.

Our own telephone fetischist Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner) and Douglas
Benford (aka Si-{cut}.db) here gives us their contribution to the mad cow
disease - a bovine revolver loaded with four twisted cuts of nobullshit
drum n bass on the drill tip.
Their collaboration started on Benford's "Behind You" album which was
produced by Scanner and recived rave reviews; judging from this EP the
teamup isn't the least bad.

"The Bovine Revolver" contains four tracks, all sounding a bit like the
Vibert/Squarepusher parts of today's d&b scene, but then again, what
doesn't? However, all the Spunkjazzes or Mealtimes isn't closely as good as
this 12". It doesn't reach the heights of either Plug nor Squarepusher, but
I've yet to hear anything that do.
The tracks carry a hint of the more asian side of Black Dog (ie the best of
two worlds) and that is a comparasion that not many artists deserve. Very
mature sounding electronica albeit not the least boring - weird
time-signatures and fresh sounds - all nifty arranged. One of 1998's
surprises so far.

The first release from this english teamworking pair is a fine spacy ep
that doesn't leave me in awe, but wanting more.
I'd have no problems putting my hands up for the Bovine Revolver.
