Got the new Autechre EP today- I must say I'm quite surprised by the
generally negative responses about it. LP5 was, as far as I'm concerned,
their best LP since Amber. EP7 is certainly a lot more complicated
sonically than previous releases: there is a lot of processing and
shifting of individual tones as well as shifting patterns in the music.

I was also impressed by the packaging of this release. The cover has been
moulded like LP5 with 'Autechre' embossed at the top along with the CD
audio logo (more feint), but this time the plastic is transparent. The
cover and liner have abstract, angular line drawings (see warp site for an
animated applet that generates these) which seem to fit the music very
well.

Conclusion: if you didnt like LP5 then you probably wont like EP7. This is
not a 'rehash' or remix or cast offs from LP5- sonically it is more
detailed and it shares some of the feel of the Gescom MD.
