(idm) ethics in music?

i'm just curious about this thing & i figure, this list needs some
action so what the hell. :)

do you have any ethics in what music you buy, what artists you
support? (that is, independently of whether you like the music or not)

i.e. what do you do with an artist you know has an ego the size of texas
& pretends to have invented techno ~ or one who has a huge attitude
problem & cannot stand a single criticism regarding what they do? would
you keep buying their albums? would your interest in them remain the
same?

another concern: if an artist made music for a commercial, where would
you draw the line?

(i know that although i'm not against music used for advertising per se,
i personally wouldn't buy or support anything from someone sountracking
g*p or n*ke commercials, for example ~ if only as a means of protest
regarding their third world employment 'policies', but, like all of
ethics, that's essentially a personal decision ~ albeit one that does
have social repercussions. )

btw ~ in this message, i mean ethics in the personal sense: a personal
choice based on rational thinking, a democratic thing. i do not mean a
dogma.

so, what are your ethics? :)
