>>>Source Direct: Exorcise the Demons Astralwerks 6521-2. This is going back to the store.<<< Not -quite- that bad, but this was a big disappointment. I certainly haven't tracked down all their 12"s (anyone wishing to part with some, get in touch) but what I've heard up 'til now has been excellent. This album...is not. It shows no forward development in their sound that I can detect. Plus a lot of it is "techstep by numbers" to a point that some tracks should already sound dated. So how is that Ed Rush/Optical 2CD? I kind of liked Torque, but I don't know that anyone needs more of it. So is the new stuff a good step forward? My last 2 posts have been to tell you about releases that did not satisfy. Here's one that did: The new Ilpo Vainsen (sp?) from the 20'to2000 series. This is not likely to shock anyone familiar with Pan(a)sonic and side projects, but it is a fine, coherent example of this general terrain. The 8 brief tracks employ whirrs and sputters, pops and drones, in combinations that range from a perverse funkiness to high-frequency feedback. And at just over 20 minutes, it can't possibly overstay its welcome. --Mark __ Burning Rome : SENSELESS CD on Mindfield Records MindCD03 Cathartium 14 > Distributed by Dutch East India Trading, Com Four, and Carrot Top < < http://www.xnet.com/~mkolmar/BurningRome > < MP3 & RealAudio tracks >
