You people are pathetic the way you rant and rave back and forth about rhythm or melody. "Its all about the beats man, complex rhythms is where its at" or, "Noodle NOODLE, gimme some more CHEESE on my goddam NOODLES!". What you don't realize is that these frivolities just dilute the true beauty of music, and you are left worshipping artists who pour their sold-out-souls into these gimmicks to create music that seems like throw-away dated plastic after only a few weeks. Today you'll be after the Schematic complex-beat laden flavor of the month, only to jump on the next meandering jingle someone like Bola or RDJ will crap out. What you don't realize is that you are both hopelessly lost, arguing like kids in a fool's game that never ends. The true next big thing in music casts aside the poppy bubble gum of rhythm and melody, and I know that while not all of you are sophisticated enough to appreciated this, a buddy of mind lent me a cassette that is just blowing me away! Going by the markings its by some guy called "MEMO", and by latin, the second word "REX", leads me to believe that "MEMO-REX" or "King of Memory?" (king of memory, what could be more intelligent that that, beat-cretins!!!) The name of the tape (not on CD yet apparently) is "Type II, High bias" , or to clear it up for you stupid Noodle-droolers - must be an indication that the era of your primitive "Type ONE" music is over, left like the last Ice Age to melt away into the sea. When the tape was handed to me I dropped everything to put it in my deck and put on a set of Sennheiser HD600s to let the music carry me away. This 60-minute epic (60 EXACT minutes, more symbolism about the HOURS you waste with your Type ONE music) masterpiece starts out with a serenely beautiful quiet hiss, only to jolt your mind with a subtle POP then more dreamy hiss, but with a slightly different timbre than the first intro hiss. It is here where the journey really gets going, using a white-noise like environment that lets your mind explore both the inner spaces of your consciousness AND the far reaches of the galaxy. "Woo-hoo, Spaceship Brain to Earth!, come in Earth!!" - but Earth is nowhere to be found, just the tranquil beauty and empty spaces of MEMOREX's subtle wizardry. Then, just as you think you are about to leave the Milky Way, Side B kicks in, with the pop found on the intro of SIDE A (maybe Side B is remix???, Lance??). Side B is a similar journey but even more profound now that you are a seasoned veteran traveller of the universe of SIDE A. If you arent some glo-stick raver poseur concerned with beat and melody then you most definitely will have a better understanding of the depth of SIDE B. Look, I took a LOT of hard classes in college, and lots of my teachers used HUGE words - experiences which I think expanded my intellect and helped me comprehend Mr REX's work to a degree that lots of you will simply not pick up. Peasants: Behold the future of music, for it is MEMOREX, the KING of MEMORY and his intergalactic TYPE II, HIGH BIAS journey of wide open spaces and sparse, sublime minimalism. Beats? Nope... Melody? None to be found - just the realization that future of music is here and if you have sufficient intellect and good taste this masterpiece will enrich your life more than any of the toss that passes for music today. </RANT> ernie np: SKAM 000; picture side PS- I can make mp3s of this if anyone wants them Ernesto Ikerd, (817) 763-4795 Company Graphics, Dept 17, MZ-1156 Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems Fort Worth, Texas
