----- March 24, 2003 Helsinki, Finland First Abflug Release Lands Safely: Precious Cargo Intact Today marks the release of Abflug 01: Formatt: Connections / Samuli Alapuranen: Apinavideo, the first release from the new multimedia label Abflug. Connections is comprised of six tracks (23.4 mins) of glitchy, atmospheric electronica courtesy of Belgian artist Formatt, whose work has been previously released on several labels including Robo Records, Stasisfield.com and 2063music. This session is best enjoyed through your standard stereo system. Apinavideo is straight from the brain of Samuli Alapuranen, who is perhaps better known as acclaimed Finnish video artist and musician O Samuli A. Apinavideo is a black & white, loopy tribute to monkeys, with Samuli's beautiful, simple, melodic music as the soundtrack. Enter the jungle through your CD-ROM drive. The CD is now available through the Abflug website and several distributors and record stores in Europe and Australia. In Case You Don't Know What Abflug Is Abflug is a Helsinki, Finland-based label dedicated to electronic music and video arts. The aural criteria for Abflug releases ranges from soundscapes to echoing glitch to ambient to crunchbeat to deep techno. Each Abflug release will include both an audio and a visual element. The two components, music and video, are complimentary but separate, and not necessarily by the same artist. The format for the first Abflug releases will be CD-Extra, which means that there will be two sessions on the CD: normal audio tracks in the first session (for CD player), and QuickTime video clips (for computer) in the second session. The second release on Abflug is due out around April 15 with music by French producer Antoine Verhaverbeke. Abflug will also be present at the Pixelache festival at Kiasma, the museum of contemporary art, in Helsinki, Finland on April 10-13.
